Lincoln Place Preservationists Win Commission Vote
MAY 5, 6:00 PM -- Advocates for the preservation of Lincoln Place apartments prevailed in their bid to protect the post-War apartment complex before the California Historical Resources Commission this afternoon. The commissioners voted 5-1 in favor of designating the 38-acre garden apartment property as an official Historic Resource. Two comissioners abstained.
Today's action came at a re-hearing of a Commission decision in favor of the designation that was taken last August.

Tenants of the complex have waged a decade-long fight against eviction and demolition of the complex. For the past several weeks, AIMCO, the corporate owner of Lincoln Place, has engaged in mediation discussions with tenants, preservationists and other community members with the help of Peter Robinson, the managing director of Pepperdine's Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution. It's uncertain whether or not mediation will proceed given this afternoon's action by the commission, according to sources close to the talks.
