Lincoln Place Tenants Get A 10-Day Reprieve
by Roger Templeton
Friday, November 18, 10:18 PM - Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and District 11 Councilman Bill Rosendahl won a 10-day suspension of the eviction of Lincoln Place tenants that were posted this week, according to Rosendahl's office. The assurance that "lock outs" would be delayed came in a conference call that included Villaraigosa, Rosendahl and AIMCO President and CEO, Terry Considine, along with AIMCO Senior Vice President Patti Shwayder, late Friday afternoon.
Earlier today, architecture preservationist Amanda Seward was joined at City Hall by a group of seven Lincoln Place tenants. They buttonholed Mayor Villaraigosa and the Councilman outside a meeting of the City Council and got the mayor's promise to call Considine to ask that evictions be suspended while efforts to re-open negotiations are pursued.
AIMCO did not agree to return to formal negotiations in this afternoon's call.
Five- to seven Lincoln Place households were subject to being locked out of their apartments Monday, with a second group of fourteen scheduled for eviction Wednesday, Thanksgiving Eve. Eighty-three households have court ordered evictions pending, with the balance of the 160 tenants -- elderly and disabled tenants -- having until March, 2006 to vacate.
